Y halo thar, folks!

I've really achieved none of my goals these holidays. Sorry! I had hoped I could show you some cool new animations, or direct you to my new video-blog, but instead I just bummed around, sat on the Internet, flew to Melbourne to support one of my favourite local bands, got drunk, caught up with people I hadn't seen, made new friends. I had a great holiday, but I haven't furthered my creativity in the slightest. Well, not in any way that I can show you.

And now that "holidays" are somewhat over for me, it's back to Suit Up! and all that that entails. With any luck, I'll find a wee bit of time here and there to make things to put up on here. Watch this space, but not too hard!

Spring Break: Let's party!

Well, it's holidays once again, and I'm once again work experience-less. Must keep busy. So, what've we got planned? Well, there's still plenty of work to do for Suit Up!, so that should keep me busy. I have to plan and begin work on both my website and my DVD. I also have to go back to my original footage and find all the cool little bits, make an EDL, etc, etc. in order to put together some special features for the DVD. Anyway, not important here.

Besides all the work I have to do, I have some other projects to start thinking of. I'm going to be doing production design on an MRC funded film called "Flyswatter Dance Instructor" to be directed by my friend and personal hero, Dangerous Dave. We've got auditions happening next Friday. I also have toyed with the idea of going to Melbourne or Sydney these holidays, but I'm not entirely sold on this idea, if only for the fact that I have no money.

In spite of all this, I'm thinking that I will film at least two additional projects these holidays. I want to film a music video, and I want to film another short, with story yet to be decided. One of my actresses from Suit Up!, Lynda, has expressed an interest in doing some more work together, so I'll maybe give that some thought. I might also try my hand at some animation. Finally, I'd like to start a video blog. Maybe as a once-a-week thing.

So, to sum up:

1 x music video
1 x short film
1 x animation
2x video blogs (one per each week)
1x Super8 in-camera short

Let's get to work. Any takers?

Update: I just remembered that I've got my Super8 camera lying around still. Added to the list is one Norwood Cheek-style in-camera edited Super8 film. 400 ft. All editing in-camera. No touching after the fact. And make the music before hand. I'll have to get my hands on some Tri-X or some such. Mo' money, but worth it.

Next Holidays

So I was thinking that maybe this I will continue this blog past this current project to incorporate any future holiday projects I might dream up. This one was a wee bit of a fizzle; I think I need something a bit more along the lines of the Kino aesthetic: just shut up and do it!

So once this project's done and dusted, I'll start dreaming up another Holiday Project... and then another... and then another! It's gonna be rocking. Just you watch.

I'll sleep when I'm dead.

If you ever thought that it was a bit of a wank to create a blog for this little film, I feel I should explain myself.

First off, I'd like to say that I had intended for it to be a bit more substantial, and that I'd have more to say on the matter. I'd write an awesome and inspired screenplay, that dazzled with its wit and wowed with its ability to avoid massive production costs. Then we'd film, and edit within 5 days, all in time for me to get that done and dusted before the Adelaide Punk fine edit and the work experience I had coming up at the time. Then I'd whack it up on YouTube, and be invited to parties with Brookers and Geriatric1927. Basically, it was a bit of a big deal to me at one stage. :D

Secondly, I always saw this as being something very different from what I'm doing with Suit Up! (for one, I want to keep that blog largely professional...-ish). The Holiday Project blog gave me another outlet. Furthermore, I'm completely addicted to blogging at the moment. I've got about 15 of the suckers sprinkled around the internet, and without this project, I had nothing to blog about for the holidays. It woulda been hell!

That's what I'm doing, sitting around now, half from fatigue. Because bloging is better than sleep, fo shizz.

Keen on Kino...

where better to show the holiday project (still un-titled) than at the next kino adelaide? I've fallen out of my old kino ways, and I would love to once again share in this fantastic gathering, this time with something to show!

As for the project itself, still no edit. I had planned originally to get it all over and done with very quickly, but that idea was very quickly over and done with. :\

Well, things are on hold for the time being, though I might do a bit of work on this project if I end up heading in to school today, but I've got bigger fish to fry at the moment, sorry to say!

It'll happen, but it's gonna take a while.

Well, today was not the massive disaster that I was ever so sure it would be... well, I'm being overly dramatic once again, but... Let's just say I thought it was gonna be a bit of a non-event, but I think what transpired was a simple bit of improvisational film-making, and it was lots of fun for me to direct once again.

I presented Chris and Maxx with a scenario and some basic character traits which they then used and took on board to create a dialogue between two people, a young man and an older woman (the mother of his best friend) as she tries to break off the affair that they've been having. The guys really started to get a feel for it in the end.

Our major dramas were the fading sunlight the low battery on the camera, and the complete lack of sound recording equipment. I think the first two will ne fine, but sounds gonna be a nightmare. We'll see how it goes. If we release it on YouTube we might be able to get away with some re-recording.

In any case, my thanks to the wonderful Chris Koch, actress extraoirdinare, and the fantabulous Maxx who has worked very hard to try and get some ideas out of me, and who was a source of valubale knowledge during the whole shoot.

Tomorrow never comes... No, wait, yes, it does.

Spent some time at my friend Josh's on Monday night. During our festivities, I began to brain-storm some ideas for the film. I got lots of ideas. Lots. Lots of wonderful ideas.

I woke up the next day, and found that the ideas were less than wonderful.

Nuff said.

Maxx spent clost to 2 and a half hours with me today, as we wandered aimlessly around Norwood trying to think of ideas for the film. We still haven't had too much luck yet. Fuck.

I've been screwing around on flickr when I should've been writing my script!

Well, still a couple of days to go, but only two actors secured thus far, Chris and Maxx. Maxx called me the other night with an idea for the film, a good idead that I've been mulling over; it's an idea we can most certainly build on. Thanks, Maxx!

There's still an actor or two that I have yet to cast... or call. I'm meeting up with Maxx tonight to talk things through some more.

Chris Koch has signed on. This is great news, as watching Chris on the MAPS 2005 DVD the other night was one of the main reasons I wanted to undertake this project. Chris is a talented and dedicated actor that I can't wait to work with again.

Well, things have slowed to a crawl - I've been busy doing holidayish stuff instead of the work that I set myself! Zounds!

I've got several actors already firmly in mind, but I actually need to call them to see if they're going to be available. I think I'll have the most luck with actors that I've worked with before, but I might be able to eke out a few other performances from some new-to-me peeps.

I've got one actor firmly in mind, and I would like to build the rest of the film around them. I'd better call them tomorrow to see that they at least will be available.

I'm thinking of filming on Thursday, Friday and Saturday next week.

Muse all you want, but the work's not being done!

Well, I had meant to spend a bit more time tonight on the storyline, but no such luck. I think I've already fallen into the trap of spending a disporoportionate amount of time on this blog to have done any work. Look, I even took pictures in anticipation that things would be thought over!

Ah, those best laid plans. I'm just zipping through the DVDs now to pick out the personalities I wish to approach for this project.

So what's it all about?

Basically, I know that shit about idle hands, and I don't want to be sitting around pulling myself stupid these holidays. I want something to do! So, this holiday season, I'm gonna make me a movie. Nuff said.

I was watching last year's M.A.P.S. DVD tonight, and saw all these actors that I want a chance to work with again, or that I think would be cool if they tried playing a certain character... I don't know, I need to work out the particulars, but my basic brief is this: to make a film where the actors are the focus, and where the various parts are written with specific actors in mind.

I'll edit the film at school in the two days leading up to the commencement of the fine edit for Adelaide Punk. (Never fear, Alan; Punk takes presidence!) The finished film will be included as a special feature on the Suit Up! DVD.

This excites me; I think this'll be fun. I'm gonna start scratching out a basic storyline now. I'm leaning towards a drama. And I really want to use the wet weather to my advantage.
